ALAC: The Studies

The STUDIES, are a sculptural homage to Imi Knoebel’s reductivist expression. This collection of work represents a translation of Imi’s early Mennige-Bilder works into 3-dimensional objects that explore form, perspective and materiality in new ways. Through his work, Imi Knoebel creates an awareness of the power of minimalist forms and their ability to alter the perception of space. His experimentation with geometrical patterns and visual associations resonated with my own developing work on visual perception and sensory engagement. This parallel narrative manifests through new material relationships and juxtapositions explored in solid marble, wool felt and wood in a minimalist palette of black and white. The choice of materials and color intend to elicit and challenge the way we see space and the objects within the space.
